Lynda F. Jones, Principal of The Jones Law Group, has been practicing law for 18 years in both state and federal courts. She is admitted to practice in Federal District court for the Middle and Eastern Districts of Tennessee. She has held a certification as a consumer bankruptcy specialist for 10 years, and has litigated over 400 contested matters.

Community Contributions:

  • Advocate for the Elderly and Disabled—Ms. Jones spearheaded a change in state exemption laws in Tennessee to protect the elderly and disabled. Eventually the Homestead exemption was increased, which prevents hospitals and creditors from taking the homes of the elderly and disabled due to medical bills.
  • Advocate for the Economically-Disadvantaged— Ms. Jones has donated her services to a free legal clinic for the community sponsored by the NAACP/ Nashville Bar Association/Legal Aid and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
  • Advocate for Women—Lynda donated her lobbying skills on behalf of the Women’s Political Caucus to assist in passing a law protecting victims of domestic abuse from discrimination by insurance companies.
  • The Women’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor Roundtable Invited Participant—in 2009, Ms. Jones voiced her support of job training and childcare services for disadvantaged women in the community. Ms. Jones is herself a working mother who understands the need for balancing work and home commitments.

Jennifer Lawson of the Lawson Law offices

Ms. Lawson handles a broad range of complex civil litigation including contract disputes, trade secrets litigation, officers’ and directors’ liability issues, copyright infringement, entertainment law matters, business bankruptcy representation and litigation and claims for denial of benefits under personal and ERISA-qualified disability insurance plans. She has extensive experience in litigation in federal and state courts and in alternative dispute resolution. She provides advice regarding corporate governance issues to for-profit and nonprofit boards of directors.

Ms. Lawson is a former member of Lassiter, Tidwell, Davis, Keller & Hogan, PLLC, where she represented clients as diverse as alcohol beverage distributors, hospitality firms, non-profit corporations and internationally renowned entertainers in complex litigation and bankruptcy matters and landowners in condemnation and eminent domain proceedings.

Bankruptcy work on behalf of business creditors

As counsel to a Chapter 11 Trustee, Ms. Lawson represented the interests of a bankruptcy estate and its creditors in the U.S Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. She has been involved in numerous reorganizations of businesses in real estate investment, construction, private residential services, retail and entertainment. She has represented the interests of creditors and debtors in matters such as preference actions, discharge and dischargeability actions and claims litigation.

Ms. Lawson has numbered among her clients the State of Tennessee, individuals, and multinational corporations in healthcare, entertainment, general commercial litigation and bankruptcy matters. She was a member of a team of attorneys that defended allegations of healthcare fraud and abuse for a major healthcare company and was involved in the defense of shareholder derivative claims brought against the officers and directors of publicly traded companies in the healthcare and retail industries.

As an attorney for the Tennessee Department of Revenue, Ms. Lawson was lead counsel in bankruptcy matters in 26 states and Canada.

Education

Ms. Lawson received a B.A. degree from Carson-Newman College in 1988, where she was an Honors and Dean’s List graduate. She earned a J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1991, where she was on the Dean’s List and active in the Student Bar Association and Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity.

Professional affiliations

Ms. Lawson is a member of the Tennessee Association for Justice, Tennessee Bar Association, Nashville Bar Association (including the Bankruptcy Practice Committee), Lawyers’ Association for Women and CABLE. She is a founding member of the Tennessee network of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) and serves as vice-chair of the Tennessee network.
