Why are they bankrupt?
Surprisingly, there is an entire group of people who do not see the effect of the recession. The privileged who live in an insular world of professional groundskeepers and private schools seem to think that the people who file bankruptcy just don’t work hard enough or are on welfare. Its shocking to me that someone could be so narrow minded in our world of electronic media and instant news.
Bankruptcy offers relief to people who can be trapped under a mountain of debt who did everything ” right” including going to college, havings savings, living below their means but just get caught by things out of their control. Who knew that the housing bubble would cause ripples across the nation?
If you rent and your landlord has his property foreclosed upon, you are out of luck and on the street.
If your sole credit card company decides to up your interest rate and lower your credit available because they are frightened of the economy, what are you to do? Ideally you would not have even a single credit card. But wait……..the credit card industries offer so many tempting incentives.
You can get free airline miles, free cruise miles, cash back and more!
What if you earn just $25,000 a year and lose your job? You are supposed to live on 25% of your pay . Where do you live on just $500 a month? Answer: the projects. Affordable housing is unattainable in many parts of our nation.
Bankruptcy is not a dirty word. Unemployment is real.
